It has been a long while since I have updated my research project. I guess we sort of all dropped the ball on that. Either way though, at the beginning of this school year, I did make out the new Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) Sign-Up Schedule for our teachers. I used a notebook and placed sign-up sheets in it for the entire year. I made sure to make note of days when we would not be in school so that teachers would not sign up for those days.
When the OLC was donated to us, they also donated two items/toys that went out into our playground for all the students to use. One of the toys has been in constant repair since we placed it out there. It is a bicycle merry-go-round and the kids love it so much that they wear it out. Our maintenance department is having trouble keeping up with the repairs on that specific toy. I believe my principal would rather the toy be removed rather than have to bother our maintenance department all the time. It is a really neat toy though, so I hope they can figure out a way to make a permanent fix, so that the toy will be allowed to stay. I plan on talking with my principal about that this week. I will get back with you all on the outcome of that conversation.
The OLC, on the other hand, is doing very well! I am excited about that because, even though at the beginning of the year it was too hot to be outdoors, some of our teachers still would go out and use the center for a few minutes. Now that it is getting cooler around here, today our high was 70, I believe the teachers will use it more often. There has even been talk that we may be adding a few more items to the OLC to make it more appealing. I do not know if I will be in charge of the second phase of the OLC, but I will definitely avail myself to be part of the committee.
