Week 4 EDLD 5352 Organizational Chart

Organizational Chart
School Board
The job of the school board is to support the district vision and goals set by the SBDMT’s Campus Action Plan (CAP) for each school. The CAP will include goals to improve the use technology at each campus.
Superintendent
The job of the superintendent is to oversee all aspects of the local educational system. S/he presents the board with any purchase that may be necessary for the educational development of the students, technology items included.
Deputy Superintendent
Assistant Superintendent
These two positions work in conjunction with the superintendent to make sure that all the educational needs of our students are met for each campus. They serve as a checks and balance, not as “yes” men or women.
Director of Finance
The director of finance makes sure that we are able to purchase the equipment that is necessary for each campus. All purchases must go through this department for approval or rejection. This department makes sure that our educational money is being spent wisely and as equitably as possible.
Technology Director
The technology director is responsible for all the technology within the district. He has assistants to help him take care of each campus. He is responsible for the technological infrastructure of the district and for making sure that the superintendent knows the needs and/or desires for upgrading technology to meet the needs of the students.  If there are purchase needs, he has to report the needs to the finance director for approval.
Four Technology Assistants
Their job is to take care of their assigned campus(es). To assist teachers and students with technology problems and to fix computers and printers. They replace the ink cartridges for the printers and they report any major issues back to the technology director.
Campus Principal
The campus principal is responsible for identifying the technology that is on their campus. S/he reports any technology needs to the director of technology. The principal ensures that the instructional staff is incorporating technology into their lessons. S/he provides professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their technology skills. S/he ensures that the students have an established time for learning how to use technology appropriately.
Campus SBDMT
The Site Base Decision Making Team works to evaluate the goals of the campus and ensure that the needs of the students are being met. The goals are written into the Campus Action Plan.
Teachers
Teachers provide the SBDMT and the Principal with first-hand knowledge as to the needs of the students. They are responsible for implementing technology into their lessons and for providing the students with a set time for computer lessons.
Parents
Parents are part of the SBDMT. They are responsible for reinforcing the academics that are being taught at school. This includes the use of technology.
Community Members
Community members are part of the SBDMT. They can provide monetary assistance for the purchase of technology needed for the district. Community members can provide students with real world applications for the use of technology and can offer students opportunities such as internships or on-the-job training.

Outdoor Learning Center PowerPoint - What We Have!

Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020

School Technology and Readiness (STaR):
The STaR Chart was developed so that campus' and districts could have a tool to effectively self-assess whether or not they are effectively integrating technology across the curriculum. The Long-Range Plan for Technology has been put in place so that we will have a time line, from 2006-2020, to show improvement in our schools. The No Child Left Behind requires that students be technologically literate by the end of the eighth grade.

I chose Teaching and Learning as my topic to talk about because I have to embrace the idea of using technology without fear. I have to change my view of the traditional teacher choosing the source of knowledge while the student acts as the receiver of that knowledge. That sort of thinking is not for our 21st Century students or schools. The roles of teachers and students have to continually change. We as teachers need to realize that technology is the world of our students and they may be able to teach us more than we can teach them. We need to not be afraid to ask them to share their knowledge and skills, in regard to technology, with us. We will be able to better prepare our students for this global and digital world of information if we change from a teacher-led learning environment to a student-centered collaborative environment.

Taking risks with technology is the ticket to learning how they work. Staying frustrated because you can't make it work like its supposed to work, will only cause more frustration. We need to be able to depend on each other, our instructors, and/or our IA's for support when we feel flustered about technology not working, not give up. Thank you Chris G. for helping get my PowerPoint uploaded to my blog.

EDLD 5352 - Web Conference - Week 2

I attended the Saturday, Jan. 28th, web conference hosted by Dr. Abernathy. Dr. Attaway was there as well. We discussed many questions in regard to our PowerPoint presentations for this week. A few were already done with theirs and had posted them, but not many. The information Dr. Abernathy gave us throughout the conference was information that we needed to know about. She informed us that we only had to do one blog assignment for this week. Last week we had two. I did not get a chance to get into a conference last week, but I did this week so that is why I am posting this for week 2. We talked about Google sites and Web 2.0 resources. We talked about the difference between blogs and wiki sites. Blogs are more like journals and wikis are more of a collaborative site where others can add to what you have posted. It was an interesting web conference. It caused me to look within myself, along with the readings for this week, to take risks with technology so that we can use it for the betterment of ourselves and our students.

Outdoor Learning Center PowerPoint - What We Have!

Today I produced a PowerPoint to share with our teachers. The PowerPoint shows our teachers what we have in our Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) Closet. These items are for them to use outside with their students. If we are having bad weather, the teachers can use the manipulatives in their classrooms. I also created the PowerPoint as a reminder for them to use the OLC as another source, or tool, in addition their classroom. Sometimes a new view will be just the ticket to producing more learning for a student.
